the weekly menu

Pranzo sabato: pic-nic style
Pranzo domenica: gastronomia italiana
venite a cena?

ah, the joys of a cooker that works! A week ago the Culinary missionary awoke from her forced hibernation, with great satisfaction of her pressure cooker, the rice cooker and of Fraser The Freezer.

I even started again to compile the weekly menu...I know, not really italian this menu and recipes archive. But it comes from a very strong italic obsession for food, to which you have to add the monstruous hunger of the MFSJ when she gest home at 5pm, her tantrums (which go exponentially with the instrinsic tiredness of the subject) and the patience threshold of mum and dad (which is an inverse function of the tiredness of the subjects).
How can you answer the angeli devil's questions while you are mixing the sauce, the water for the basta boils over, the microwave calls you 'cause the spinaches are thawed?! And how can you possibly focus on a new tajine recie, the spice mix for a new curry, an absurd list of imhmmmtresting options for the husband's o-bento?! I can't...I couldn't.
But I found a solution. on friday night, TGIF (Thanks God Is Friday), we invent the menu for the week ahead. the weekly menu: the perfect product for my two obsessions: lists and recipes! MFJ is offered no alternative, and sits down with me. We peruse our recipe collection, we adapt dosages, find substitutes for impossible ingredients...and select the recipes which we'll use in the days to come:
Saturday lunch: pic-nic style
Saturday dinner: fish (hurray for Leiden market!)
sunday lunch: gastronomia italiana
Sunday dinner: japanese gourmet
Monday dinner: easy night (generally a soup, tobe served with croutons and other trimmings. All hand made, with the help of Frazer the Freezer)
Tuesday dinner: the carnivores (super-meaty dish...can be anything)
Wednesday dinner: fish (hurray for Leiden market and Fraser the Freezer)
Thursday dinner: pasta di mamma (infinite possibilities)
Friday dinner: eggs and surprises (dishes in which eggs and/or tofu are the base)
Included in the table there is even a section called "cooking ahead" (veggies soups, chicken stock, those two kilos of bolognaise sauce which I tend to always have ready "just in case"...they are all produced on saturday and sunday) and the beloved (and very-much neglected) "cake of the week". Now, before you say "BOOOOOOOOORING", here's a list of what passed on ou table in the last few days:: paella, buillabaisse with ruille, pizza (margherita e prosciutto e funghi), yakitori, double chocolate muffins, pasta al pesto, omurice... and in the next few days we'll have ertwensoep, sloppy joes, pasta ratatouille, ramen with eggs.
joining us for dinner?

TGIF !!!!
Strucolotti a tutti.
