Cari Amici,
mentre esprimo la mia solidarietà per la vostra manifestazione, vorrei che essa servisse a ricordare a tutti due punti che si è sovente tentati di dimenticare:
1) Democrazia non significa che la maggioranza ha ragione. Significa che la maggioranza ha il diritto di governare.
2) Democrazia non significa pertanto che la minoranza ha torto. Significa che, mentre rispetta il governo della maggioranza, essa si esprime a voce alta ogni volta che pensa che la maggioranza abbia torto (o addirittura faccia cose contrarie alla legge, alla morale e ai principi stessi della democrazia), e deve farlo sempre e con la massima energia perché questo è il mandato che ha ricevuto dai cittadini. Quando la maggioranza sostiene di aver sempre ragione e la minoranza non osa reagire, allora è in pericolo la democrazia.

Dear Friends
while I express all my solidarity for your protest, I'd like it to be used to remind everyone two things that we are too often prone to forget:
1) democracy does not mean that the majority is right. It means taht the majority has the right to govern the country.
2) Democracy, hence, does not mean that the opposition (minority) is wrong. It means that, while respecting the government of the majority, the opposition must express itself aloud every time it thinks that the majority is wrong (or, even worse, thinks that the majority is doing things agaist the law, the ethics and principles of democracy). This expression of opinion must be done with the utmost energy, because this is the mandate the opposition received from the citizens. When the majority is always convinced to be in the right and the opposition does nothing, democracy is at risk.
