Bouwtechnische keuring

It sounds like a bad word, but it's actually just the technical survey of a building. We asked a specialized technician, who came right on time and who, for 90 minutes, turned "our" (almost!) house inside out. Heavily armed with telescopic ladder, probes, screwdrivers, hygrometers (one for surfaces and one for the air), digital camera, laptop and voltmeter, he hasn't left anything untouched. Read more
Starting from the tiny window on the roof, from which he managed to get out, he checked chimeys, rooftop, insulation, gutters, possible leakages, etc...for a moment I thought he was going to count all the pebbles that hold the extra insulation on the roof while protecting it from UV...how he managed to go through that tiny little space, I don't know: my modest scientific opinion is that it MUST be a barbatrick!
He removed the front panel of the boiler to check the date of production. He measured humidity in all rooms, in all walls. he checked all the power switches and plugs, all the windows, the windows and door frames, the fireplaces, the drains and the special vents (beluchers) for all sorts of plumming jobs.
The same goes for the ground floor...at some point he even dismantled 5 panels of the floor (cunningly placed there!) so that he could reach the insulating layer below, then a wooden little door...finally opening to this amazing place called the kruipruimte. I'm relaly bad at technical translation, but basically it's that space between your floor slabs and the ground underneath, especially important if you have wooden slabs ...he even managed to get into that cellar for Snowhite's dwarves!
The technical survey didn't find anything wrong with the house, jsut some "cosmetics"...and yes, that asbestos roof on the garden shed...but that's still intact, so for now we leave it.
And yours truthfully here, your little wannabe scientist discovered another super-interesting gadget: tiny hygrometers! I'm already tempted to buy one. no, not for me...it's just that when yo uare told to incubate your 150 microarrays in a humidity chamber, you wonder "how humid is humid?"...and is that wannabe-humidity chamber produced by my boss really humid enough for those microarrays to be safe in there?
Only woman of the group who witnessed the technical survey, I made more than one testosteronic witness smile, since I was constantly running behind the big nederlander asking him things like "how does your hygrometer work? infrared? radiofrequencies?". The poor man had to promise to send me the manual via e-mail to get rid of me. And Wim, our expert, kept teasing me showing a lot of oh-so-fake interest in said gadget, even asking the guy how much it would cost and where could it be bought. You can laugh all you like...but am I or am I not DIM's daughter?
Tonight, in fact, during our daily video-conference, I could sense his relief when I answered "yeeees" to his question "did he check the earthing of the electric system?"
Yet another step towards O.U.R. nest, hurray!
