Wordly jogging

Jogging?

Jogging? One week after an operation? I know...I was the only one believing it...and you were all so kind NOT to tell me anything...after a full dose of anesthetic it might take a tad longer to recover, and this recovery businness is also VERY MUCH mental...you all knew that and didn’t want to bust my chances: thank you, I love you all. My cruising speed (to answer Yanello’s question) is slowly improving from the initial three-tiny-steps-one-long-pause: I can manage now to romp around Leiden (toddler-at-playground style...so much to do, so much to see!). but I did start some other type of jogging...actually, it seems a true pro-marathon training: for the Bookreading Marathon!

Gilia sent me this amazing book: Venuto al Mondo by Margaret Mazzantini. I started reading it the day I run away form the hospital...cruising speed for this word-jogging? 15 pages/hour (yeah, I know...I should do words/hour but I haven’t got the book here anymore...so I can’t be more scientific than this for now: I assumed that my reading hours were only 12 per day, given that I slept a lot and I did have to walk around the house every now and then).
Comments? Oh...I am crap at comments and critics...the book is brilliant. Intense. I loved everything of it: all the different stories weaving through 3 different time-frames, words rolling out of the pages, emotions so well presented that you identify immediately, even if you never felt that way before! There’s everything in this book: maternity, love, obsessions, relationships (both with others and with yourself)...the war and the siege of Sarajevo are the backdrop and the protagonists of these 529 pages...which yours truly here zapped in just under three days of avid reading...actually...I was not reading...I believe I was gorging down words! I loved the way the characters came to life. So true, you feel them in your belly (or maybe it was just my liver feeling lonely since the sudden departure of the gallbladder...we’ll never know). You become that character! During Gemma’s first wedding...that father walking her down the aisle made me cry, and I was so frightened I couldn’t breathe when I found myself surrounded by the thoughts of the sniper pointing at those kids playing in one of the streets of Sarajevo...and believe it or not, the author was NEVER in Sarajevo during the conflict...
I’d read it again, now, on the spot. But I can’t 'cause GH took it to Italy...it’s the first time that she gets convinced to read such a HUGE book: it’s nice to have company while jogging, even if through words only!
