Arrivals Gate

it's a sure cure for cancer...it even makes airports ok!

Have you ever listened to Ani di Franco’s song “the arrivals gates”? it’s not available for download on her website, pity.
The airport is my second home. After many years here in the Netherlands I am still lost in Amsterdam without MFG, but I can run around Shiphol as if I lived there. How beautiful is it to sit at the arrival gates? Entire welcoming parties armed of banners and balloons and videocamera, or the shy lover holding a red rose behind his back….Children running to their grandparents, dogs that make it clear who was their owner who they missed so much…there are hugs, kisses, another hug…. every time the two kissing dutch kids separate and the doors on which they are drawn slide open, a smile opens on someone’s face.
It’s good for the heart, at least mine…and “it’s a sure cure for cancer”!
So, when I have to bring someone o Schiphol, after the sadness of the departure gate (nowadays I can’t bring myself to wait for them to wave back after retrieving their hand luggage…I leave when they had in their boarding pass) I take a peek at the arrivals gate…I make sure that at least there people are happy, I thank my good god for this substantial source of pollution on wings with powerful engines, I pray for a chance to be back here soon, to wait for someone…and I go back home by train.
It’s a sure cure for cancer…it even makes airports ok!

Thyra...yes! we have indeed similar pictures on our blogs. thanks for reminding me that I still have to write (in italian...) about this tripleX tradition! The two dutch kids kissing keep me company at Arrival Gate 1. They kiss while the door is closed, and they part when the doors slide open and passengers come through. I think only dutch could think of this one!
