Come essere buoni

Libro-tiramisu' numero due (il numero uno, solo per ordine di lettura, sta qui). Questo e’ stato sulla mia lista “to read” per tantissimo tempo! Praticamente da quando ho visto il film About a boy (ah no…non provatevi nemmeno a puntarmi il ditino contro…non lo sapevo che il film era stato ispirato dall’omonimo libro!). Insomma, quando sconsolata sono entrata in libreria, questo libro s’e’ messo a strillare “scegli me, scegli ME, scegli MEEEEEEEE…lo so che e’ quello che vuoi”.

E’ una storia fantastica, comica, sconvolgente. Nick Hornby la scrive interamente dal punto di vista di una donna, e gli riesce proprio bene! Katie e’ una dottoressa, e’ una brava persona, o cosi’ crede…ah, beh…fatta eccezione per la voglia di divorziare dal suo insopportabile cinico marito e per la personale autorizzazione al tradimento. Come fara’ a sopravvivere la repentina trasformazione del cinico marito, che cerca di essere BUONO, essere PAZZAMENTE buono…il che implica, tra le altre azioni intraprese, ospitare senzatetto, regalare i giocattoli dei bambini e cercare di convincere i vicini a fare la stessa cosa? Lo scoprirete se leggerete questo libro.
E’ uno di quei libri che vorresti in gira-pagina-automatico, un pugnale nel cuore. E, davvero, l’ultima pugnalata sta nell’ultima frase dell’ultima pagina. Giri la pagina in cerca di una spiegazione, ma non c’e’ piu’ scritto niente.

Since I saw the movie About a boy (don’t you dare pointing the finger, ‘cause I didn’t know at the time that the idea for the movie came from a book), so when I dragged myself to the shelf in the book store, it was already screaming at me “I’m HERE, HERE HERE!!! Pick me, pick me, pick me…you know you want to”.

It’s an amazing, hilarious, upsetting story. Nick Hornby writes entirely from the point of view of a woman, and he does a good job! Katie is a GP, she is a good person, or so she thinks…oh, well,…apart from wanting a divorce from her annoyingly cynical husband and allowing herself to have an affair. So, how does she survives the sudden transformation of such a husband, now set to BE GOOD, be CRAZILY good, which implies, among other actions, taking in homeless, giving away the kids’ toys, and convincing the neighborhood to do the same? You’ll find out if you read this.
It’s a page turner, it’s a heart stabber. And the last stab comes in the very last sentence: you automatically turn the page, and there’s nothing there to read.
