Mentre perdo ore intere a controllare le mie traduzioni usando interglot, Merriam-Webster e wordreference, perdendomi in sfumature e interpretazioni, la MSGP sembra piu' a suo agio che mai: tre anni e mezzo e gia' muove i suoi primi (e quanto mai SICURI) passi nel mondo della mediazione culturale...traducendo Majo no takkyūbin (Kiki consegne a domicilio) per la nonna. la MSGP adora Kiki, e la nonna non e' da meno: ma noi abbiamo solo la versione in giapponese, oppure in inglese...Cosi' la MSGP ha deciso che bisognava aiutare la nonna ed ha fornito una lunga traduzione/spiegazione.
Adesso invece sta guardando Biancaneve...stavolta mi ha chiesto di settare il DVD in italiano, perche' altrimenti le tocca tradurre dall'inglese e siccome il DVD di biancaneve serve per dormire, non puo' rilassarsi...
evviva le acrobazie linguistico-culturali...mi chiedo se il mondo in cui viviamo abbia una rete di sicurezza in dotazione: certi salti tripli sono pericolosi.

While I lose myself in details and interpretations despite my rigorous use of resources like interglot, Merriam-Webster and wordreference, MFSJ seems so at ease! three and a half years old and she is already moving her first (and well determined) steps in the field of cultural mediation! She translated Majo no takkyūbin (Kiki's delivery services) live, for Grandma. MFSJ adores, and Grandma is quite keen too, but in this house we have an english/japanese version, no italian...so MFSJ decided that help was needed, and volunteered her own translation/interpretation (in Italian).
Now they are watching SnowWhite...this time MFSJ asked me to set up the DVD in Italian: if you must know, SnowWhite is her "bedtime DVD story" and if she is busy translating, she can't relax, you see? (mind you...she NEVER falls asleep in front of a cartoon...)

Hurray for cultural acrobatics...I wonder if this world we live in comes with a safety net for such exercises... certain somersaults are quite dangerous.

Piu' di una settimana senza papa'...I primi tre giorni eravamo solo la MSGP e la sottoscritta...niente di spettacolare, era gia' successo. E siccome eravamo solo in due, ci si faceva piu' coccole per compensare questa mancanza. la MSGP mi ha addirittura caricato la lavatrice mentre ero sotto la doccia. Mi chiedeva "Questo si?", la mamma controllava, poi lei infilava nell'oblo'. Mi sa che ho sbagliatp a giocarmi la carta "mamma aiuto" gia' adesso: a 15 anni non ne vorra' piu' sapere!!! Ma finche' pulire le tazzine del caffe' o caricare la lavatrice sono visti come gioco, puo' anche andare.
Le attivita' casalinghe andavano a rilento, ma poi e' arrivata Nonna Aiuto: MDO, con il suo bagaglio di esperienza, praticita', una valigiona piena di pasta, caffe' e amore...evviva!
E oggi, dopo una settimana di cure amorevoli, la MSGP ed io abbiamo deciso che era ora di ricambiare...cosi' abbiamo fatto alla nonna i nostri speciali biscotti-dido', inventati domenica scorsa quando volevano giocare con la plastilina e ci siamo accorte che era tutta secca...viva google! viva i pazzi che mettono le ricette online! La nostra non e' molto diversa...eccola qui:

Ingredienti
180gr burro a temperatura ambiente
160ml zucchero scuro (si, sono ml...le musure sono volumetriche: le tazze americane)
1 uovo
vanillina
500 ml farina
1/2 bustina di lievito chimico
1 cucchiaino di bicarbonato
sale
(yoghurt e necessario)
Preparazione: sbattere energicamente lo zucchero con il burro a temperatura ambiente. Aggiungere l'uovo, la vanillina, il sale, lievito e bicarbonato, e la farina a pioggia. Quando l'impasto comincia ad essere appiccicoso, usare una spatola e continuare a lavorare incorporando farina. Alla fine risultera' un impasto morbido, non appiccicoso. Se risulta troppo secco, aggiungere poco yogurt. se risulta troppo umido, aggiungere farina.
Usare l'impasto per fare "sculture": noi abbiamo usato soprattutto la pressa, da cui sono usciti una specie di CRUMIRI!
Cuocete in forno gia' caldo, a 180C per 10-15 minuti (non asciugateli troppo perche' diventano duri!).
Noi prima di aggiungere la farina abbiamo aggiunto cacao amaro a meta' impasto, cosi' abbiamo fatto i crumiri bicolore.
Non so quanti ne abbiamo cotti: erano tantissimi, ma sono gia' quasi tutti finiti...la nonna e' una assaggitrice di biscotti molto pignola e indecisa!
PS: il calpis fatto in casa e' fantastico!

More than one week without daddy...The first three days MFSJ and I were alone...nothing special, it had happened before, so we already knew that the best way to survive is to double up on cuddles, to compensate! MFSJ even loaded the washing machine while I was under the shower. she would pick one item of clothing and would ask "Questo si?" (this one: yes?), mum would check and reply yes or no, then, depending on the answer, MFSJ would throw the stuff into the washing machine or back in the basket. I know what you are thinking: bad mistake to play the "Mamma Aiuto" (Mama's little Helper) card now: wen she'll be 15, she won't move a finger!!! But for now, washing coffee cups and loading the washing machine are still games, so it's ok.
House chores got to an almost-standstill, but then Nonna arrived, with her luggage of experience and practicality, a huge suitcase full of pasta, coffee pads and love: hurray for nonna! And today, after one full week of lovely treats, it was time MFSJ and I did something for her...so we baked her our "Playdoh cookies", special cookies invented last week when we realized that our stash of playdoh was as dry as rock...long live google and those crazy people who put recipes online! Ours is not much different, it's here:

Ingredients
180gr melted butter
160ml sugar
1 egg
vanilla extract
500 ml flour
1/2 sachet backing powder
1 tsp backing soda
salt
(yoghurt if necessary)
Preparatione: cream sugar and butter, add the egg, vanilla extract, salt, raising agents and then the flour. When the dough starts being sticky, use a spatula to keep knitting. add flour if necessary (too sticky) or yoghurt if too dry. the dough must be SOFT but not sticky. In theory it is to be placed back in the fridge, but skip this part and ...make your sculptures! We espacially enjoyed the playdoh press, which make fantastic-looking crumiri.
bake in pre-warmed oven at 180C for 10-15 minutes (don't dry them too much, because once cold they become too hard). Once cold, place in ziplock bags.
We added cocoa powder to half our mix before adding the flour...so we bade bicolor cookies...
I don't know how many we made...they WERE a lot, but there's not much left: Nonna is a picky (and unsure) cookie tester!
PS: home made calpis is great!

Armature e Vessilli

Da ieri sera la MSGP ed io siamo sole: il MGP torna in patria per un paio di settimane. Viaggio di lavoro, pensa un po'! Per l'occasione il POVERINO dovra' indossare giacche e cravatte...che ingiustizia: lui si tira a lucido ed io non posso nemmeno godermelo...l'ultima volta che l'ho visto con il completo e' stato quando ci siamo sposati!

I preparativi di viaggio sono cominciati ben prima che venisse prenotato il biglietto. MDO e' stata reclutata come esperta di moda e gran guru' di praticita'. Lunghe videoconferenze hanno facilitato il compito al team di esperti: consulenza metereologica, liste su liste di quel che serve, quel che c'e' e quel che manca. La trasferta italica post-natalizia ci e' servita sia per ritemprare lo spirito e riempire lo stomaco che per alleggerire il portafoglio. La giacca che abbiamo trovato gli sta cosi' bene, ma cosi' bene, che e' un peccato vedergliela togliere! A rischio di rovinarla, dovrebbe usarla SEMPRE, anche come pigiama.
Un vero principe azzurro...che invece di sfoggiare Spade di Verita' e Scudi di Virtu', indossera' armature di professionalita' (le giacche) e vessilli di confidenza (le cravatte). E come il principe della Bella Addormentata, anche il nostro eroe ha avuto tre fatine a dargli una mano: la MSGP, MDO e la mogliettina.
Mogliettina che intanto, dopo un mese di preparativi, puo' aggiungere un altro pallino alla lista di skills del curriculum: dopo aver stabilito il guardaroba, controllato i souvenir pro-businness, supervisionato le prove generali per valigia imbarcata e bagaglio a mano, stabilito le combinazioni camicia-cravatta-completo, calzino-pantalone-scarpa, nonche' aver improvvisato un workshop sul nodo alla windsor...mi prendono all'ESTEC per preparare il bagaglio agli astronauti! non lascio niente al caso! Controllo tutto...secondo me il MGP e' scappato in uno scatto di esasperazione!
Scherzi a parte: buon viaggio amore mio, torna vincitore. E non ti azzardare a restare la' perche' vengo a prenderti!


From last night MFSJ and me are alone: MFG goes back to the Land of the Rising Sun for a couple of weeks. Businness trip, lucky him! For the occasion, the POOR soul will have to wear suit and tie...this SO not fair! He goes around Japan all dressed up and I can't even enjoy the view! Last time I saw him wearing a suit was when we got married!

Preparations started well in advance: the ticket was not yet booked. GH was hired as fashionista and Practicality Guru. Long videoconferences (aka "skypeing") aided our team of experts in their task: weather forecast checked, lists of what-is-needed, what-we-have, what-we-need. The trip to Italy around Xmas was named "holiday", yes...and indeed we *refurbished* our spirit and filled our stomachs, but we also made our walled fetherlight! We found a jacket which looked SO good, but SO good, that it was a pity to see him take it off. I would say he should wear it even as payama, although it might ruin the shape.
A true Prince Charming...who, instead of brandishing The Sword of Truth protected by the shield of Virtue, he'll wear the Armour of Professionality (the suit) holding the Banner of Confidence (the tie). Thinking about it...as Prince charming in Sleeping Beauty, MY prince was also helped by three pixies: MFSJ, GH and wife.
Wife who, after a month of preparations, can add yet another line to her CV:
after having agreed on a traveling wardrobe, checked all the pro-businness souvenirs, supervised all the packing possibilities for hand luggage and checked-in luggage (I'm the master of 3D tetris!!), having listed all approved combinations for jacket-shirt-tie and socks-shoe-belt, having improvised a workshop on "the windsor style of tie-knotting"...I think I'd have a permanent position at ESTEC to make sure the astronauts don't leave their toohbrush behind! I check everything...I'm starting to think that MFJ didn't leave: he run away in exasperation!
Enough of joking: have a safe trip my love. And don't you dare stay there, because I'll be there in a sec to take you back!
