Furoshiki-bis

Fatemi sapere come va ;-)

I AM BACK!!!!
Still jet-lagged and with our midget-flat completely upside down...still, from the moment I landed my fingertips were itching...I SO want to tell you everything about this pilgrimage!!!! For now, I am happy to report that the Furoshiki-mania is SO POPULAR!!
Furoshikis are back in fashion even in their country of origin...if you want to practice (HappyHappy, this is for you), here's two schemes I drew myself...

FUROSHIKI TOTE BAG (top scheme, click on picture to enlarge): place the fabric on a flat surface. make a double knot between A and D, making A very long and D quite short. repeat between C and B leaving C long and B short. Join A and C with a double knot. DOOOOOOOOOOOOONE. This scheme was used to make the bag in this photo.

HANDBAG (second scheme, click on picture to enlarge): fold the fabric in diagonal, wrong side in. Knot A on itself, repeat with C. Flip those two big knots inside. join B and D with a double knot. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE.
Let me know the results ;-)

The double-knot must be done in a special way, to make sure it's super-strong yet elegant. For now, just make two knots one on top of the other...the best grandma in the world (aka MFJ's Grandma) explained me how to do it, but it's difficult to explain in words...so I'll draw it for you and post it as soon as I can.

Mani d'Oro

Nuovo appuntamento con gli acronimi! Dopo avervi descritto Faccio Da Me (FDM) potete immaginarvi chi e’ MDO (Mani d’oro)...
Leggi tutto

New appointment with acronyms! After describing you Do-It-Myself (DIM) you can easily imagine who GH (GoldiHands) is…

She was less than six years old when she started sewing small dresses for tiny dolls she would buy with her pocket money. As a wedding present from her mum, she received a sewing machine (Pfaff) which had only one defect: not fast enough (mind you…faster than that you can get only the machines used in factories…huge and can’t do much more than a straight stitch). Her creations dressed three brides of the Martini Clan...picky to the impossible, she was able to spend hours on a dress, try it on you and declare “no good” before throwing it away. I thought I had inherited pickiness and brains from DIM, but after careful analysis I came to think that some abilities might be linked to mithocondrial inheritance patterns. One thing only still amuses me: how come only when GH is around everything seems to run so smoothly? House is clean, mount washmore doesn’t exist, food is always ready, fridge always welcoming…the flat seems full of light, airy…happy?
I have a special corner in our flat, dedicated to GH: her very own playpen! It’s a sewing machine. Rarely used, apart from some very easy or practical experiments of mine…the little macinino is clearly happy when GH is around…not confined to the cupboard anymore, but proudly in front of the window, while yarns, threads, pins and fluff decorate the floor.
I wish I could do a tenth of what she is able to do…but I think my share of mithocondrial inheritance got a bit diluted…
Ladies and gentlemen, MRs GH: my mum.
The nickname comes straight out of my childhood. I was 6 years old and I was going to join the parish hiking group that coming Sunday. For the occasion GH made me an orange backpack. I was SO proud of it that when I was asked if my mum had made it, I chirped happily “Yes, of course, my mum has hands of gold”...and it’s true...mum’s hands...the most beautiful in the world.
